The shapes of lampshades
The shapes of lampshades are very varied and it is not always easy for our customers to describe the desired shape.
To simplify, there are 4 main elements to describe:
- Basic and upper geometric shapes : round, oval, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon (=6 sides), octagon (=8 sides) or other
- Proportions between bottom and top : cylindrical (bottom=top), cube (bottom=top=side), conical (top is smaller than bottom, variations of conicals - empire, Chinese, American, drum)
- Branch shape : straight, pagoda, dome, tulip, bell, ball
-
Decoration/variations : collared, banded, cut corners, hollow corners, rounded corners (rounded), scalloped, gadrooned, umbrella, or other
Obviously, when we talk about lampshades, we call them by their main characteristic, eg
- drum (=round conical, drum shape, straight branches)
- pagoda (=round, conical, with pagoda-shaped branches)
RIGHT conical lampshade frame (upper circle defines the shape):
|
|
standard right (EMPIRE) (eg. 30x15x21)* |
right CHINESE (eg 30x8x16) |
the bottom circle is twice the size of the top one; the branch length is between the two |
the diameter of the base circle is significantly larger than that of the top; the branch length is approximately twice the top diameter. |
|
|
American right (eg. 30x23x25-30) |
right drum (marsh) (eg. 30x22x18-22) |
the diameter of the base circle is slightly larger than the top one. The branch length is equal to the base diameter. |
the diameter of the base circle is slightly larger than the top one. The branch length is equal to the top diameter. |
